Saturday night I was able to sneak into the rebel base and watch Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
And what a night it was.
Unfortunately, I had to do this mission solo.
So I left the home with all the hopes and dreams of the other 75% of the Rogue Rebels…
and a few loth cat whimpers….
I arrived in Hollywood with a bit of time to spare and decided to see who was around.
Ran into a few of the SWU boys and Jared from Podcast 2187 and even Stephen Stanton!
Chatted with my buddies for a bit then I went back to the rendezvous point and waited for pickup.
I ended up with a nice corner spot right next to The Star Wars Show stage which was lucky since I got to say hi to my buddy Andi before she got REAL busy!

Hung out with some great fellow fans and watched everyone go down the red carpet! So many fans were able to get smiles, selfies, autographs, and handshakes. It was a great time!
Before I knew it it was showtime! So towards the theater we went…
PAST A SCREEN USED X-WING!!!!
And just like that…
BOOM.
I watched a new Star Wars movie. One word that definitely comes to mind with this movie:
BOLD.
Rogue One is definitely the most badass Star Wars movie thus far. From the tone, look, and attitude, this flick swings from the rafters.
The choices and storytelling of this movie are bold and a strong departure from what we’re used to while still maintaining that Star Wars look and feel. The characters are very well done and each one gets to really shine; it’s wonderfully balanced storytelling that gives everyone his/her due. The film LOOKS AMAZING. All those sexy shots from the trailers are there and the galaxy is wide and sweeping. There were some very nice music cues that to me fit somewhere right in that spot between Star Wars Rebels and A New Hope. The action is ON FIRE! The actions scenes move and are very well put together (I bet having a Donnie Yen on set helps. Right, Ron?)
All that packed in with a few bonus cameos, space battling, and superlasers definitely put this flick high on my list.
If I had to compare I would say this.
The Force Awakens was a great movie that brought us back to the familiarity of everything we’ve loved about Star Wars since the beginning. Rogue One breaks the conventions of what Star Wars is and is beautiful for all the opposite reasons. This is not a sweeping opera of destiny and archetypes. This is a story of hope, unity, and courage. This is a story of what it takes to make a real difference when the entire world is against you. This is a story that needs to be told and heard in our world now.
What an experience.
My fellow Saber Guild members and I hit the after-party and lots of fun ensued! So many familiar faces and friends! I love catching up with cool people who I don’t see often enough!
I kinda had a blast with Mart Mattin pretty much the entire time!!
Just like that, it was over!
Another triumphant addition to the Star Wars canon and such a wonderful experience that I’m truly thankful for.
Thanks to Lucasfilm for such an amazing experience that a lifelong fan like me was able to enjoy!
I can’t wait for the rest of the world to enjoy this movie!
