Darth Vader sets out to reclaim Solo and draw out Skywalker so he can finish what he started on Bespin. The unstoppable Sith Lord goes up against Crimson Dawn, the Droid Crush, the Hutts, and anyone else who stands in his way.
Also… Ochi of Bestoon is a delight.
A flashback to a close call for Han and Chewie when they escape Vader at the YT repair shipyards!
Rule of Two
Vader knows the Sith ways very well and is not going to be replaced without a fight. It’s a far cry from where we know he ends up by the time of Return of the Jedi but so far Greg Pak has given us some fascinating insight into Vader’s thoughts and motivations.
A Million Hands
Sly Moore has her own designs since her recent failures have diminished her favor with the Emperor. While she doesn’t have the power of a Sith Lord, she believes that amassing allies will be enough to overpower her enemies.
IG-88 faces off with Darth Vader and turns his own armor against him. Spoilers… it doesn’t work out well for IG-88…
Killer Droid Killer
IG-88 suffers quite a few setbacks… I wonder what happens next??? (See War of the Bounty Hunters IG-88 #1)
Water Cooler Talk
A couple of Imperials wonder how Vader survived a massive space beast with a bunch of outdated droid tech. Vader is way more than the sum of his parts.
Do You Know Who I Am?
Ochi uses his new affiliation with Vader throughout the story to add some weight to his cred. Usually it doesn’t really work out until Vader actually shows up… But watching Ochi getting pummeled is oh so satisfying!
In a crazy space fighting twist droids start attacking Vaders TIE while helping Luke repair his X-Wing! It reminds me of buzz droids!
No caption needed.
With the rise of Crimson Dawn the Emperor assigns Vader to hunting them down. I guess we’ll see where this all goes soon!
Await the Dawn
Greg Pak uses these issues to not only give us more of Vader, but really flesh out some of the other baddies! Ochi of Bestoon is the second best Vader sidekick (see: Doctor Aphra) and their interactions are hilarious. Sly Moore and her plans give us some great insight into the power dynamic between everyone on the upper levels of the Empire.
This comic arc is a must-read for anyone looking for a more introspective look at Vader and Sly Moore! Also the Ochi content is top notch!
