Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters Favorite Comic Series Moments!

War of the Bounty Hunters promised us plenty of trouble for Boba Fett and now that it’s all said and done…

It delivered.

We saw all sorts of entanglements and cameos from Sith Lords themselves to the lowest of the underworld. Charles Soule fills in the space between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi with some extremely interesting revelations. It’s the kind of series that, even though we know Jabba gets Solo in the end, the journey is a wild ride! There are some galaxy wide happenings involving huge upheavals in the underworld that I am sure go well past this series and I can’t wait to see how they affect future storytelling!

This is Star Wars’ biggest crossover event thus far! Unlike Vader Down and Screaming Citadel (which totaled 5-6 issues apiece) War of the Bounty Hunters spans it’s own mini-series, one-shots, Star Wars, Darth Vader, Bounty Hunters, and Doctor Aphra for a total of 34 issues! The main mini-series hits the meat of the story. So if 34 issues looks intimidating to you take the 5 War of the Bounty Hunters issues (6 if you add in War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha#1) and you’ll get the big picture. Each other series or one-shot focuses on it’s own set of characters. Do ya really like Valance and want to get his full involvement? Read the issues from Bounty Hunters. Curious about Aphra and Sana and more of what they were up to? Check out the Doctor Aphra series! I will say reading the issues as they were released felt a bit repetitive. I’d knock out an issue of War of the Bounty Hunters then jump over to Doctor Aphra and feel a bit like I was retreading the same events from a slightly different point of view. But that’s the point right? On subsequent re-reads, I took each series on it’s own and the story felt much more unique and flowed better.

In any case the story had some fantastic moments and I’ll share my favorites!

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Imperfect Hibernation

Solo starts leaking and it looks like he won’t make the trip to Tatooine. Boba stops off to get him fixed. Like any good RPG, this leads to a side quest!

Simple Man

Boba needs to kill an arena fighter. What better way then to enter the fight himself? In order to keep the Nar Kanji heat off of him, Boba gets a quick repaint and enters as Jango. That probably won’t bring up any bad arena memories right?

Dawn Rises

When Solo is stolen from Boba the one behind everything is none other than Qi’ra. Leading a reborn Crimson Dawn she’s making her play in the underworld and it’s a big one. This reveal was HUGE and I loved seeing Qi’ra’s return! She’s such an interesting character and I can’t wait to see where she goes from here!

Master of Disguise

A mysterious hooded individual asks Aphra for a favor. She sees right through him.

Buy it Now

Qi’ra makes a speech and starts off her auction for Solo. Everyone is in attendance. The Hutts, The Empire, The Rebels, The moogans, The Pykes, and plenty more! This is definitely the party to be at.

Do it.

This is probably going to be my favorite comic panel for a while.

Master of Teras Kasi

When Darth Vader crashes the party, Qi’ra does not let him go unchallenged. It seems she’s continued her training all these years.

The Fleet

Just when things can’t look any worse all hell breaks loose as the Hutt fleet attacks the Executor! Well… I know which one shows up in Return of the Jedi… but this is still pretty rad.

Secret Knock

The Falcon is granted clearance aboard the Executor??

Well that’s mysterious…

The Beginning of All Things to End

In the aftermath of everything set in motion Qi’ra makes it clear this is only the beginning.

REALLY looking forward to Crimson Reign.

Bounty Claimed

This story focuses on Boba Fett but brings in so many characters and turns the entire underworld upside down! This was perfect for those of us on pins and needles waiting for The Book of Boba Fett to start this December! I love when Star Wars picks up these pieces that we really want to see moved along. Qi’ra is definitely inciting things in the galaxy and is making moves to become a massive player. While this SERIOUSLY inconvenienced Boba, I’m enthralled to see where her story goes in the forthcoming series Charles Soule has already announced: Crimson Reign! Not only that but there are a lot of ramifications I’m waiting to see play out form some of my other favorite comic characters…

One in particular that I’m REAL worried about…

This comic arc is a must-read for Boba Fett fans and Solo: A Star Wars Story fans! The story is full of bounty hunting, underworld, high stakes action and delivers on the biggest Star Wars comic crossover yet! And if you really want to dive into more, the connecting series issues provide lots more story!

What was your favorite moment?
