How We Fight
Mon Mothma continues to wield her senatorial power as a bulwark against Imperial overreach. She knows she is little more than a thorn in their side, so she continues to provide aid behind the scenes to rebels. When she sees the Empire’s plan for using propaganda against youths across the stars, she knows she must do something. Bail Organa continues to use his negotiating skills and influence to provide aid to rebel cells all over. But after a particularly disastrous incident, he’s forced to reckon with consequences that put the rebellion he’s been building at risk. Saw Gerrera is nothing if not a practical man. He refuses to be held to the ideals and rules that the enemy refuses to follow. Gerrera fights the Empire with their own ruthlessness. And if the cost is lives, innocent or not, Saw Gerrera is willing to pay them.
Sakoola Blossom Festival
Saw’s Partisans conduct an operation on Inusagi that takes the lives of Imperials and innocents alike. This savage terrorist attack is condemned throughout the galaxy. Not only that, but the Imperials have captured a survivor. Saw knows that her capture puts their entire Rebel network at risk and knows something must be done, even if he has to reach out to others who don’t agree with his tactics.
Ace Attorney
Bail pulls strings to find a barrister to represent the prisoner. Yulian Honor will do whatever he can for his client, but his skills in the law might not be the only reason he was hired. But the Empire is determined to get answers out of the prisoner, and has no compunctions about breaking her to get them.
College Dissidents
On the mid-rim world of Ghorman, students at Palmo University are starting to form a movement. At the risk of their seditious ideas spreading, the Imperial Security Bureau has sent a spy to infiltrate the movement. But if the movement doesn’t engage in violence, is peaceful resistance still a threat to the Empire? And if so, what is the punishment?
Core Pop
Quanaliko’s new song Galaxy Heart is at the top of the music charts! Young fans across the galaxy can’t get enough of the Core Pop star, which is definitely something the Empire could use. The hearts and minds of the youth could be easily indoctrinated if the Empire can co-opt Quanaliko’s music. Future generations like Leida and Leia would be loyal, upright citizens.
Bits and Pieces
Edge of the Abyss builds on the tension that The Mask of Fear set. Bail, Mon, and Saw have each forged their own paths of resistance. The friction between them remains as they push towards a common goal. With each push, the consequences grow, and it’s only a matter of time until the price of freedom becomes too great. The book is simultaneously dark, desperate, courageous, and hopeful all at the same time. Rebecca Roanhorse taps into the fundamentals that drive each of these disparate rebels. Their ideals, morals, and goals are all unique. This book dives into Saw Gerrera in a way previous books haven’t, and I loved every bit of it. Other familiar faces begin to surface. Luthen Rael, Kleya Marki, Leida Mothma, and even Anto Kreegyr. The story leads straight into Andor and fits in perfectly with the tone and tension of that show. Edge of the Abyss is a gripping journey that grapples with the effects of a constant stream of traumas, propaganda, and sanctioned violence of a fascist state on its people.
This is a must-read for fans of a galaxy far, far away looking for a story of political resistance that feels just as familiar as home.
