Unfinished Business
The Jedi are reeling after the death of Qui-Gon Jinn to a mysterious Sith warrior. Qui-Gon’s reputation was a Jedi master who habitually defied the council but he was no fool. When Mace Windu receives a final message from Qui-Gon tasking him with a mission to a dangerous world, Mace wonders why him? Was Jinn mistaken in tasking this important mission to Windu? Or was Qui-Gon’s foresight clear enough to see what this mission might teach one of the strongest Jedi Masters?

Shatterpoint
Things on Metagos are deep and complicated. A world of crime lords, web weavers, and dreams. A planet ravaged by sun storms where the survivors live underground in a glass abyss called New Xaxxis. A crime lord called Chulok is a ferocious Jedi killer who must not be underestimated. Kinshan Nightbird leads the Sa’ad and hopes Windu will free their people from the grip of Chulok’s forces. But can things be as simple as they seem? Can Windu unravel this tangled web and discern adversary from ally?

Dreamwalker
As if the dangers on Metagos weren’t bad enough not even sleep can bring a moment of respite. The Sa’ad are dream weavers who use the powers of the web to connect to the great power we call the Force. Mace Windu begins to dream about his past. Questions he hasn’t allowed himself to ask and answers he’s not certain he’s ready for. Can the strongest Jedi master find himself shattered with uncertainty? And as the dangers outside mount against Windu, so does the danger within. And if Windu fails to bring peace to this planet, will he fail his fallen friend as well as his new ones?

Bits and Pieces
Mace Windu is not the most likable Jedi. He’s stern, no-nonsense, and stoic to a fault in much of the storytelling we’ve seen. Steven Barnes explores Mace Windu far deeper than any other media thus far. In a story with plenty of action, drama, and interactions, Windu is fleshed out like never before. Ideas on the fundamentals of what it means to be a Jedi are explored. And Mace Windu’s trials and tribulations are dealt with thoughtfully. The world of Metagos and the delicate balance of powers in New Xaxxis are a fascinating and complicated setting. Each new character is fresh and enjoyable and figuring out their place in the story keeps the reader engaged. What might easily be a simple straightforward action outing instead is an action-packed dimensional story that explores Windu, his thoughts, and his past in a truly unexpected way.
This is a must-read for Windu fans looking for deep character exploration with plenty of action and a hint of mystery to dig through!
