Yes, I’ve been gone so long that it’s unforgivable.
I promise that I will keep trying to post at least once a week. (I’m really trying here!)
So this time I made Fancy Grilled Cheese Sandwiches!!!
These things are so good with Mom’s The Best Tomato Soup I agree with Freddie and recommend these two together which makes a pretty filling meal! 🙂
This recipe called for regular bread but Freddie said to be awesome you have to make it with challah bread. This was the first time we searched (by we I mean my dad) for challah bread. After a week or two of searching, we decided to just use brioche bread, something we looked up that was close to challah bread. So when I made the sandwich, I felt bad that we didn’t have challah bread, but I shook it off and I was ready to try it….
The fancy gruyere cheese was super delicious and a bit expensive. After making the sandwiches we had some left so my dad tried to eat it with everything so it wouldn’t go to waste. Dinner was kinda slow since I only made one sandwich at a time so next time I’ll make sure to do more than one at a time. Other than that, I’d say that The Fancy Grilled Cheese Sandwiches were a delightful success! The whole family was full and happy and so was I. I’ll be back with another delicious Kanan recipe…
See you next week, now here’s a small word from my dad…
The Ballad of Dad the Hero of the Lost Challah Bread
written, produced, performed, and based on a true story…
by Sal Perales
And lo, my child came to me with a wish
nay a mission of utmost importance
she spoke of a sandwich of untold fanciness
the likes of which could change our dinners forever
and journeyed forth I did
searching the land far and wide for these mythical ingredients
through traffic, I sat
at deli counters, I asked
and find the items I did
the cheeses and butter I thusly brought to her
only the bread remained
to bakeries and markets, across the county, I searched
The winds bit deeply and at night a fire I made for warmth
from the lands of Orange through the hills topping Brea
I searched leaving no stone unturned
From yon Von’s lands to the fortresses of Ralph’s I made my pleas.
and yay my bones did ache and my walking stick did crack
but journey forth I still did, my daughter’s wish unfulfilled
Until one day in the town of Fullerton
The brothers of Stater did hear my pleas
and grace me with the rare and coveted bread of challah
and set home I did then
my mission fulfilled and my daughter she did smile
and grace me with the fanciest of grilled cheeses she did
made from items rare
and soon french toast grand
that I did eat of the offerings and
remember the brothers of Stater
who granted our families wish
to sup upon the fanciest of grilled cheeses.
P.S. You can get Freddie’s book here and cook up some of these AMAZING recipes yourself!
P.P.S. The idea behind this came from a film called Julie & Julia which you can check out here!
