“You debate in the Senate while people are dying. You have the habits of a people at peace, but there is no peace! You talked about treaties with the Separatists, but the Separatists never wanted a treaty. Now you seek to remove the Emperor’s power through law, but the Emperor doesn’t care about law.”
Saw Gerrera
The Jedi are traitors and democracy has died with thunderous applause. But not everyone supports the new Galactic Empire. Three people find their own ways to fight back against the authoritarian rule as it takes hold over the galaxy they once knew. Mon Mothma has a target on her back because of the Delegation of 2000. Bail Organa searches out the truth behind the eradication of the Jedi. And Saw Gerrera is no stranger to facing any enemy with his people.
Alexander Freed shows us the birth of an Empire through the eyes of three vastly different people. As the Imperial machine spreads its hold across the galaxy how can people fight against such oppression?
SLIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD!

Mon Mothma‘s public moves have made her a target for the new regime and she scrambles to wield her political power to reclaim a failing democracy. Mothma is seen as a threat by the new regime and now finds herself a target as the Empire starts to make moves against Palpatine’s enemies. Can Mon Mothma find a way to defend herself and her constituents within the political system or will she have to find new ways to fight back?

The Investigator
Bail Organa is a man haunted by the ghosts of failure. His colleague, friend, and confidant Padme Amidala and her ideals echo with him. The Jedi whom he knew and fought beside, are all gone now. The Dreamer
Saw Gerrera, Onderon survivor, terrorist threat, violent insurgent, and charismatic leader takes action. No compromise, no remorse, and no hesitation. Unlike the others, Saw knows what happens to a world once the Empire wields its might against the people. Although Onderon may be lost, Saw continues to fight against the Empire and inspires people across the galaxy to join him. Saw may not be an elected leader but his charisma and action continue to draw many to his cause. But can one man really make a difference against a galactic Empire?

Bits and Pieces
Reign of Fear cuts to the core of the galaxy shifting away from democracy. As a fledgling Empire spreads its wings the characters struggle against the encroaching darkness. From inane bureaucratic moves to the horrors of imperialism, each change adds up in monumental ways. Alexander Freed explores how these vastly different leaders could unite for something greater. The beginnings of what would become an Alliance. This is the first book in the Reign of the Empire trilogy which will focus on these three characters through the galactic civil war. This first book delivers on that promise, and I look forward to seeing these characters throughout their journey in the next two books.
This is a must-read for fans looking for a deep political thriller in a galaxy far, far away.
