Star Wars Rebels season 1 is here on Blu-ray! The debut season that introduced us to the Ghost, Fyrnocks, the Inquisitor, Loth-cats, AT-DPs, and C1-10P is here in all it’s supermagicalbetterthanstreaming HD! So if you’re a fan of the series it’s time for this 22 pickup!
The episodes themselves look ridiculously above the quality I’m used to seeing on the “HD” streaming app. Even without the extras, the video quality alone is worth paying for. It seems odd to pay for episodes that stream for free on the XD app but no HD app can do what a Blu-ray can.
(I feel especially stupid spending so much time pulling stills for costume reference from the digital versions and trailers when every frame on this Blu-ray makes me wanna toss-up my Flickr account and 360 Hook kick it out the window….)
The sound mix is nice and solid, easily the quality we’re used to from Lucasfilm Animation; the quality is probably superior to any iTunes or digital version you may have.
The extras are a bit light but what we do have is good:
There’s a Celebration featurette with lots of footage from Celebration Anaheim including interviews with cast and crew, moments from the Star Wars Rebels panels, and lots of guest reactions and costumers (Including the Rogue Rebels!) I love this because it reminds me of all the excitement and fun we all had this past April.
All of the Rebels Recon videos are included here also in superior quality! @Deegoots and chopper are wonderful and hilarious in these behind-the-scenes looks!
All four of the shorts are included here: The Machine in the Ghost, Art Attack, Entanglement, and Property of Ezra Bridger. Also in superb quality.
Star Wars Rebels: The Ultimate Guide is a cool look back on everything hosted by Kanan himself!
Rebels Season 2: A Look Ahead has some nice commentary by Filoni on things to come along with a lot of concept art and a bit of new footage. Definitely, a must-watch for anyone looking forward to the future of Star Wars Rebels! ALSO…. (baby Ithorian….)
So there it is–if you love Star Wars Rebels get this! If you are one of those Star Wars fans who have been on the fence or unable to watch the series this is your chance to enjoy the best possible representation of the show and welcome it into your personal fandom where it belongs!! The entire family watched it again and we all got to enjoy those moments again in great quality! I miss the CG turnarounds and stash of concept art from the Clone Wars seasons holocron vaults but there’s still enough to enjoy here.
