FN-2187

Finn has come a long way since being a stormtrooper. Soldiers of the First Order are mostly stolen children. Even Finn was simply FN-2187 until fairly recently. After leading the charge to bring down the Final Order at Exegol, Finn has proven himself a leader. But when confronted with a ship full of orphans headed to the same fate he was forced into, Finn must deal with his past.
The Boss

Jannah is another former stormtrooper who joined the Resistance and helped bring down the Final Order fleet. Her character hasn’t been explored very much, so her being a main part of the story here is welcome. As we dive into her past, we definitely get to learn much more about her character and what led her to be a vital part of the Resistance.
Company 77

The First Order stormtrooper training and way of life is a huge part of this story. Its tyrannical leadership imposes itself on everyone involved. Even the troopers who are the ones to carry out its will. Some believe they are in the service of the greater good. Some believe serving well will give them a guaranteed future. Some believe the order they impose is the only cure for rampant chaos. And some work to take every advantage they can, no matter how much it hurts others.
For a while, Finn thought he was the only one who saw through the lies and broke free. When he met Jannah, he found there were more like him. Now, as the First Order crumbles, maybe he can help some of the lives caught up in its wake make the same choice he did.
Bits and Pieces

The Last Order takes us through the inner workings of the First Order in a new way. While the book does take place after The Rise of Skywalker, a lot of the story is told through flashbacks of Finn and Jannah’s time as stormtroopers. The story touches on deep themes of identity and choice. The First Order military is made up of stolen children, so as our heroes work to save orphans from a fate they suffered, they also must deal with the tragedy of their past. We get a lot of backstory for Finn and Jannah, and it’s great to finally see those characters explored! Especially Jannah, who hasn’t had much of her story told at all. There’s plenty of action to go around, but the backstory and choices of the characters are what really make this story shine.
This is a must-read for fans looking for insight into finding a way out of a system built to keep us down.
