The High Republic Adventures: Dispatches From the Occlusion Zone Review!

After Avar Kriss escapes from the Occlusion Zone, Elzar Mann utilizes EX droids from old Pathfinder missions, whose long-forgotten communications tech can bypass the Stormwall. Inside Nihil space, the trapped people work to get their messages out.

Pathfinder tech! Wild veermoks! Infiltrating the Nihil! Decoding on Dalna! And Force wielding children!

The series jumps between separate characters and their individual predicaments. All from different locales and circumstances within Nihil space. It feels like an anthology. Each story fits together and builds toward an inevitable Nihil showdown. I love how the storytelling from different authors gives each story its own unique feel and perspective. The same goes for the artists of each issue. This four-issue series varies in perspective and tone but fits well together. It really nails what makes The High Republic publishing initiative great in the first place. A group of authors coming together to weave a grand story!

Plenty of favorite High Republic characters make appearances, including Elzar Mann, Keeve Trennis, Qort, Ty Yorick, Emerick Caphtor, Niv Drendow, and Driggit Parse! The numerous characters mean many ties to other High Republic projects, and also make for a great introduction that might pique some curiosity into something you might have missed. While this series stands well on its own, its strength lies in the connections it builds between other High Republic stories.

This series is full of tension, action, and determination as each person entrusts their message into the galaxy.

This collection is a must-read for anyone looking for messages of hope under oppression!
