The High Republic: Beware the Nameless Review!

“The Galaxy is huge and beings can surprise you.”

The High Republic: Beware the Nameless is here! Zoraida Córdova hits us with a story of family, friendships, trust, and fear! When a rescue mission goes missing Ram Jomaram answers the call to help. What Ram doesn’t know is that he’s got some young stowaways desperate to help. Will they find themselves in more danger than they anticipated?

Shrii Ka Raii Ka Raii! A nerdy Hutt! Greylark sisters! And tortles!

SLIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD!

Return of the Younglings

Ram Jomaram continues his heroic path! No longer the young mechanic who just wants to be left alone in his garage to tinker, Ram has consistently risen to the occasion to defend friends, his home, and inspire younger Jedi! But commanding a rescue force into the Occlusion Zone is a dangerous mission that would test the mettle of the most courageous Jedi knight.

Of course Kildo and Tep Tep can’t stand by and do nothing. Sure they are still younglings. Sure they have just been rescued from their Nihil occupied home. And sure they aren’t allowed to go on such a dangerous mission facing who knows what dangers! But there’s no way these kids are gonna just sit by when they know they can help. They find strength not only in themselves but in each other.

Family Matters

Churo is such a breath of fresh air! He’s a Hutt who isn’t interested in the same things his family is. Churo is interested in bugs, science, and learning! His academic and scientific disposition just doesn’t quite fit with his family’s usual criminal enterprising. Churo may not be the bravest or most intimidating Hutt but he definitely has heart! And when caught up between his family ties, true danger, and his new friends, where will Churo’s path lead him?

Zenny Greylark is a senator’s daughter who insists on joining the search for her sister! She’s young and impetuous but also brave and determined! It’s great to catch up with the Greylark family and see how they’ve grown over the generations!

The Hunger

The Nameless threat has evolved. These creatures have been experimented on and have new cybernetic enhancements that make them even more of a threat. Ram, Kildo, and Tep Tep have faced these creatures before but how long until their luck runs out? Jedi after Jedi have fallen to these horrifying nightmares. And if the Nameless can destroy a Jedi master, what chance does a group of younglings have?

Bits and Pieces

Beware the Nameless has characters with real hearts, fears, and hopes. The trials and tests teach them and us both what it takes and what it means to be a hero. It’s a story about choices and having the courage to face danger to help those who need it. It all ties back to one of the core themes of Star Wars (and Ratatouille.) That a hero can come from anywhere. Zoraida Córdova gives us a beautiful story with some amazing threads to add to The High Republic storytelling!

This is a must-read for anyone looking for a story about young people finding the strength in themselves to come together and fight for each other.
