Sanctuary: A Bad Batch Novel Review!

“Stopping at nice planets don’t change what we are.”

Wrecker

Clone Force 99 has been on the run from the Empire since it began. After a disaster on Pabu, liberator of ancient wonders, Phee Genoa has a job that can help rebuild if the Bad Batch can help pull it off. But The Bad Batch knows that even a simple mission could go sideways fast. And anything that puts the Bad Batch on the Empire’s radar might be too big a risk even for these clones.

A casino heist! ISB entanglements! Political name-dropping! And soldiers with no home!

Soldiers or Not

The book is set during season 2 of The Bad Batch series after the events of Pabu. After being on the run for so long, Hunter is starting to wonder what the best future is for Omega. Tech is also considering what possibilities his future might hold. Perhaps a future with a certain pirate… The squad has been surviving on the run ever since the fall of the Republic, but now they’ve seen things outside the soldier’s life they’ve been trained for since birth. The question remains for them: If they aren’t soldiers anymore, then what are they? And what could they be?

Imperial Entanglements

As the shadow of a fledgling Galactic Empire spreads across the galaxy, Clone Force 99 has been doing everything they can to steer clear of the dangers it presents. As clone deserters, they are fugitives searching for peace in a galaxy they were only meant to fight for. Meanwhile, in the Empire, ambitious upstarts in the Imperial Security Bureau could make a name for themselves by bringing in such notorious criminals. Which, sadly, means Clone Force 99 must always be looking over their shoulder.

A Place to Call Home

Soldiers of fortune looking for a job to score enough to keep them going is getting tiring. And Hunter knows their risky life might not be the best for Omega. But in their line of work, putting down roots is dangerous. After visiting Pabu, Hunter has seen the possibility of a better life for Omega. Maybe even for himself and the rest of Clone Force 99 too.

Bits and Pieces

It’s a great time to be a Bad Batch fan! Since the celebrated animated series wrapped up, it’s great to see more stories that explore them. Lamar Giles brings us an excellent adventure featuring our favorite clones that brims with fresh action and beautiful character moments that fit perfectly in line with the story we all know. The familiar characterizations jump off the page in whichever Dee Bradley Baker voice they are meant to be. The new characters have great chemistry with the Batch, interesting back stories, and mysterious goals. This book dives into the character’s inner workings in a way that only a book can. It adds depth and layers to beloved and familiar characters. The story slots into the animated series, adding a fresh perspective to the story that fans of the series already know. Giles taps in perfectly to the core themes of family, home, and future that make The Bad Batch stories connect to us so well.

This is a must-read for any Bad Batch fan ready for new insight into familiar friends!

“A calm life can be a good one, kid. The constant danger, the never having one place to come home to. It’s punishing.”
